Benedict and Virginia State set to battle it out in the Pioneer Bowl Battle of the Bands

Charlotte, NC-Benedict College and Virginia State University were chosen by the fans to battle it out on the field in the Inaugural Pioneer Bowl Battle of the Bands. With nearly 25,000 votes, the fans chose the participants and the stage is set for Benedict and Virginia State to battle it out on the field.
Benedict College gained 3,669 votes enroute to becoming the SIAC favorite band of the year. Virginia State University led all vote getters with 3,772. Added to the mix Tuskegee University and Johnson C. Smith University, Pioneer Bowl IX participants, will also showcase their talents in the Battle of the Bands.
Each band will showcase their shows to win the grand prize of $5,000.00 with the second place team receiving a $1,500.00 prize. Benedict’s Band Director Shawn Daniels was very excited about the opportunity and stated “On behalf of Dr. David H. Swinton, President of the Benedict College, the Marching Tiger Band of Distinction would like to say thank you to the SIAC, the CIAA, our loyal fans and all who are involved with the Pioneer Bowl Battle of the Bands.
We understand that there are several outstanding bands in the SIAC and we appreciate the honor of being one of the representatives for the conference. I assure you that we will do our best, more over we will maintain good sportsmanship a tradition that has long been a part of the SIAC.”
The Battle of the Bands will take place on December 2, 2006 at 12:00 pm at Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, NC. Tickets are just $15.00 and include admission into Pioneer Bowl IX which starts at 2:00 pm.
